Hello, my name is Aeron James but I guess online it’s often followed by the phrase the “cute gay flounder”. I’m a performer who also is all over the online social-sphere talking about all things Disney, theatre and LGBT+!
What made you set up your YouTube Channel?
I actually had a really low knowledge of YouTube when I started my channel, which is weird as I’m from the main YouTube generation. I just never really watched or followed any YouTubers but then I remember stumbling on gay couple YouTuber channels and it really helping me as I was in a long distance relationship at the time so it helped watching the daily lives of other couples and to know being in a gay couple was a normal thing. I set up my channel as I felt like I had a different voice from many YouTubers online. I had always been called cute and Disney and I felt in terms of the gay community there weren’t that many channels at the time that were focused more towards teens and family friendly content and being more like “yes I am gay but I’m also a big Disney and theatre fan so let’s talk about those things and then also how they represent my community”.
What is the best musical / play you have seen and why?
Honestly, this is the hardest question. I feel like currently there is probably a three-way tie for play and the same for musical. Play: The Inheritance (Part One and Two), A Monster Calls & The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night-Time. Musical: Kinky Boots, Company & Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. The explanations would take too long but the main reasons are representation and how uniqueness and innovation of the storytelling.
What musical/play do you still want to see?
Come From Away. I can’t wait for it to come to London in January as I’m obsessed with the cast album and have watched the documentary twice. I also can’t wait for Mary Poppins to return to its original home as to this day it is still the most magical experience I’ve had in a theatre.
Single or taken?
What can people expect from your YouTube Channel?
Honesty. A lot of Disney, theatre and LGBT+ stuff but also a lot of truth. I’m going to be honest about how I’m feeling and not sugar coat my emotions as I don’t think it’s healthy to ignore for instance mental health issues and I want to especially make men of all ages aware that it is okay to cry and to talk about their feelings and emotions. I expect 2019 I’ll have developed what my channel is but that is it at the moment.
If you could perform in any musical in the West end in London what would it be and why?
I think any Disney role as it would be the perfect thing but if not Boq in Wicked as it is a role I have always wanted to get my hands on as I’ve always related to the cute little Munchkin who just wants good but ends up being unlucky in love and the hopeless romantic.
Plans for the next 12 months?
We shall see. My main goals at the moment are to have a big physical transformation and just to be creative and perform loads. Most of all I’m just excited for the ride!
